Since 2000, Rick Hencye has been involved in every order from Amish communities across Ohio and Pennsylvania. Over the years, he has built strong relationships with employers, employees, and families within Amish furniture shops, gaining extensive knowledge of each step in the handcrafted furniture-making process.
It all starts with local loggers, carefully selecting hardwoods straight from the forests around Richland county. From there, the wood is cut down to size by skilled sawyers, ready for each customer’s unique piece. Then our builders step in—handpicking the perfect boards and crafting them into custom furniture made just for you.
Rick has also spent time with the craftsmen who glue up the table tops and those who hand-turn the spindles for chairs and table legs. He’s worked alongside the very people who design the furniture—many of whom begin with nothing more than a pencil sketch. Sometimes, our design team even builds a piece straight from a customer’s own drawings, photos, or ideas.
Along with working closely with the craftsmen who build each piece, he’s also teamed up with expert finishers who apply Ohio-certified stains that bring out the natural beauty of cherry, walnut, oak, and maple. The staining process enhances the grain, while the finish you choose adds even more depth and character to the wood.
